Cash for Clunkers

Feds brag about the success of "cash for clunkers" program.

Unintended Consequences (UC)

UC-1: Environmentally conscience individuals punished because they owned a car that got more than 19 mpg. Energy wasting individuals rewarded.
UC-2: Most new cars that qualify for the full $4500 are foreign.
UC-3: Congress picks winners and losers. Auto industry wins (short term) all other industries lose.
UC-4: Those that were negotiating to buy a new car were left out in the cold. Car dealers have plenty of business and don't need to deal with those not qualifying for the "cash for clunkers" program.
UC-5: Congress planned "cash for clunkers to last through November (four months), but it only lasted three days. Proves congress doesn't know their ashtrays from holes in the ground. Proves congress cannot fix something as big as health care.

  1. Have you heard that the program's weight restrictions were also written in such a way that excludes most Ford models from being included in the cash for clunkers program?
